Needing inspiration on how to keep the family happy while on holiday?

December 13th, 2006

Family holidays can often provide you with the most fun you’ll ever have - but they can also be the harbingers of doom and disaster. How can you best satisfy the needs of everyone in your family while on holiday? The sad fact is it’s very hard to please every family member on a family holiday. However, you can always compromise by varying activities and destinations every time you take a family holiday.

For instance, kids and young teens who like theme parks will love Walt Disney World, Florida. Originally opened in 1971, you’re sure to find plenty to entertain you in this Orlando resort - whether its in the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Parks. And if you ever get bored of the theme parks during your stay at the Disney World Resort, you can head off to the two water parks, six golf courses, the sports complex, the auto race-track or the extensive selection of shops and restaurants within the resort. So, whether you decide to stay in one of the twenty resort hotels, or a hotel somewhere outside the resort, you’ll be sure to enjoy your time at Walt Disney World Florida.

If you’re looking for a family break that’s more in tune with the great outdoors, think about taking your family to Yellowstone Park, located in the Western states of Montana and Idaho. The first and oldest national park in the world, it covers an area of 3470 square miles, and is concentrated mainly in Wyoming, Montana. Famous for its spectacular geothermal features, like geysers and hot springs, Yellowstone National Park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk. If you take your family to Yellowstone National Park, you can choose to go on the “Family Adventures” all-inclusive escorted tours around the park, or opt for “multisports”, like hiking, rafting and horse-riding.

Alternatively, you could take your family skiing in Salt Lake City. The Wasatch Mountains just east of Salt Lake City are a popular destination with winter sports fans and eight ski resorts lie within 50 miles of the Utah capital. In fact, Utah’s ski resorts are said to have the “greatest snow on earth”; what’s more, the popularity of Salt Lake City’s ski slopes have increased by 50% since its successful hosting of the Winter Olympics in 2002.

As you can see, there are a variety of diverse locations to which you can take your family on holiday. Many hotel chains also offer special family rates, so you won’t have to scrimp and save on your accommodation. Don’t forget, you can also take your family on vacations to major American cities like New York and Chicago, which will offer a plethora of activities to cater to all tastes and sensibilities. And, while you might not be able to keep everyone happy all the time, no one can say you didn’t try!
