Through data sharing agreements Consumer Sentinel includes not only consumer fraud and identity theft complaints received by the FTC, but also complaints from over 100 different U.S. and Canadian federal, state, and non-governmental organizations. This diversity of sources gives Consumer Sentinel users a broader, more complete picture of current trends in consumer fraud and identity theft. We are constantly adding data. We have found it most useful to track complaint data using its original entry date into the data contributors’ systems. Accordingly, transfers of data from other organizations may contain complaints from previous months. This will retroactively change some totals and percentages on our graphs and charts.
