India is a country that is hard to describe. There is very little that a lot of us actually know about India. We know that it is a country in Asia. We also may know a few Indian people. A lot of these people moved from India to go to school in the United States or to get jobs. We see that they are intelligent and hard working.

We also know that they flavor a lot of their food with curry, and that Bollywood, India’s movie making industry, churns out some pretty interesting flicks. But that’s about it.

Unless India is in the news, we don’t hear much about it. But what you may have heard is that it is a country that is considered an up and coming economic powerhouse in the world. The standard of living there is extremely low. If an average Indian were to make as much as your average business person in the Western culture were to make and then go over to India and spend it there, it would go a long way. That is why a lot of people in India take on work as freelance writers and website designers because they can make the money earned in the United States stretch a lot further.

This concept is great for India, but not so great for countries such as the United States and England where it is a lot more expensive to live. In India, people can charge lower rates because it is not uncommon to live a very comfortable life on the equivalent of $30 a week there. In fact, if you make more than that, which is very possible if you utilize the global freelance marketplace, you are considered very well off.

So if you do not live in India, it is a good idea to learn more about the country because chances are, we will be hearing a lot more about it in the future. Whether it is because of ongoing problems with countries such as Pakistan or because of their economy, which is booming, India is something that more and more people are realizing is changing economically. This is great for India but not necessarily a good think for freelancers and other workers in the United States. Outsourcing to India for things such as call centers is also another common practice.
